Parenting in the city. And working at the same time. Looking out behind you and awareness of your need for really good mummy behaviour.

Such perfect other mums who can happily donate every second of every day to serving their children. It must be a matter of predisposition; I don't think, however much I prepared myself, I could ever live this way. So, I am happily surrendered to outsourcing some of the really hard grind. As a small, slight, single mum, the challenges I face in parenting are so invisible to so many others. I've lived through this before, in my teens especially, struggling to cope in the same way as my peers with the demands of life. Most of them purely physical, some of them emotional too. So are they laughing at me now because I don't jump with joy at the prospect of a weekend spent trying to teach an uncoordinated child to ride a bike? Have they any idea of the agony, frustration and physical exhaustion I would go through to do this, let alone the unlikelihood of success in the end anyway? Some things can just wait. She'll cope without being able to ride a bike for a year or however much longer.
